Gas pistols
Airsoft pistols marked as GAS work on the basis of the release of propellant gas accumulated in a magazine. As a rule, they shoot in semi-auto mode. The propellant gas is pumped from the cylinder into the magazine, this process takes only a few seconds (the gas cylinder is pumped through a valve into the magazine, similar to the system used to fill gas lighters). How many shots you get from one refueling depends on the design of the airsoft gun, its performance, but also the quality of the propellant gas. There are also universal propellants. However, more experienced airsoft shooters use propellants according to the temperature in which they will be shooting.
The projectile energy of propellant-powered airsoft guns is generally up to about 1.00 Joule (similar to manual and electric airsoft guns). According to the power (projectile energy) also the proper airsoft BBs cal. 6 mm needs to be chosen in terms of weight. The disadvantage of this type of airsoft guns is the need to have a propellant cylinder (usually available in sizes according to volume, e.g. 400 ml, 500 ml, 600 ml, etc.).
GAS airsoft pistols are popular among pro airsoft players. The manufacturer Umarex also offers very hearty replicas of popular models such as the Heckler & Koch USP and Walther PPQ M2. However, the ASG brand also offers more affordable replicas of models such as the Beretta M92 and CZ 75D Compact. Most of the gas-powered models are also equipped with a Blow-Back feature. This feature ensures that the slide moves the same way with each shot as it does on real semi-auto pistols.
