Crossbow recurve

Recurve crossbows – a traditional principle in modern design

A recurve crossbow is a mechanical weapon with a simple bow mounted on a stock. The combination of a horizontally mounted bow, stock, and trigger mechanism provides the shooter with greater stability, accuracy, and shooting comfort. It is a unique hybrid of a bow and a rifle, using a shortened arrow – a so-called bolt – as its projectile.
Modern recurve crossbows are now highly advanced technologically and available in a wide range of designs. Thanks to this, beginners, young users, sport shooters, and experienced users can all find a suitable model. Recurve crossbows are used for recreational shooting, sport disciplines, and hunting.

Power of recurve crossbows and what affects it

The power of a recurve crossbow cannot be defined by a single parameter. It depends on several factors, such as:

• limb strength (draw weight in pounds – lbs)
• type, size, shape, and weight of the bolt
• overall design and construction of the crossbow
• modern options for adjusting and modifying power

It is the combination of these characteristics that determines the resulting speed, accuracy, and effectiveness of the shot.

Basic classification of recurve crossbows

Recurve crossbows can be divided into several basic categories based on power and intended use:

Pistol recurve crossbows

Pistol recurve crossbows feature a simple design and compact dimensions.

• power: approximately 35 – 55 lbs
• suitable for beginners and recreational shooting

Stronger models with a draw weight of around 80 lbs already offer higher power, allowing accurate shooting at distances of up to 25 meters or use for small pests.

Sport and hunting recurve crossbows

Larger recurve crossbows resemble hunting rifles in size.

• power: approximately 95 – 225 lbs
• suitable for sport shooting and more demanding use

These crossbows allow accurate shooting at distances of approximately 20 – 80 meters and offer greater stability and accuracy.

Repeating recurve crossbows (with magazine)

A specific and technologically most advanced category is repeating crossbows with a magazine.
These crossbows are equipped with a recurve bow and modern features that significantly increase shooting speed. The magazine holds approximately 5 – 10 bolts, allowing fast repeated shooting without lengthy reloading.

Advantages:

• high rate of fire
• better handling and smoother operation
• compact and modern design

Repeating recurve crossbows represent the peak of mechanical weapon development. The trend is moving towards higher speed, efficiency, and compactness, making them so-called “weapons of the future”.

Modern repeating crossbows – selection of top models

Among the top in this category are modern models from brands such as Steambow and EK Archery:

• Steambow AR-6 Stinger II M10 Tactical
• Steambow AR-6 Stinger II M10 Tactical Set
• EK Archery Cobra RX Adder 2.0 130 lbs
• EK Archery REVO 7 90 lbs

These models represent the top among repeating recurve crossbows and show the direction in which development in this field is heading.

Recurve crossbows – an ideal choice for everyone

Recurve crossbows are an ideal choice for anyone looking for a reliable, accurate, and technologically accessible mechanical weapon. Thanks to the wide range of models, both beginners and advanced users can find the right option, whether for recreational or sport shooting.
