Sleeping bags
A sleeping bag, colloquially sleep sack, is a protective, largely enclosed bag used for sleeping. It is mainly used for outdoor stays (mountain expeditions, hiking, camping, etc.). Sleeping bags are essential equipment for every camping trip. As an insulating base for a sleeping bag, a sleeping mat is usually used. Sleeping bags have different characteristics depending on the type of use.
How to choose a sleeping bag?
Sleeping bags come in several lengths and it is important to find out whether the specified measurement is the length of the sleeping bag or the recommended body height. A simple rule of thumb is that you should always choose a sleeping bag 10 to 15 cm longer than your height. Your temperature requirements, where you travel the most and whether you are allergic will determine which material and which specific design you should choose.
Before buying a sleeping bag, it is important to be clear on a few points:
- the conditions in which you will use the sleeping bag (e.g. heat, cold, humidity, etc.);
- how often you will use the sleeping bag (regularly or only occasionally);
- for whom the sleeping bag is intended (man, woman, child);
- how much you are willing to invest.
First of all, choose according to the season you need the sleeping bag for. Sleeping bags are also available in different shapes and colors.
What types of sleeping bags can you find on afg-defense.eu?
- Summer sleeping bags - they are designed for the warm summer months, when the temperature at night does not drop below about 6 °C. If you are going to camping, backpacking or festivals during this period, a summer sleeping bag is quite sufficient. It is relatively lightweight, weighing less than 1 kg, and synthetic hollow fiber is used as a filling.
- Winter sleeping bags - they are designed for winter season for even the coldest conditions. They are technologically very sophisticated and resistant to moisture. Thermal comfort is also reflected by its larger size and weight compared to summer sleeping bags. Goose or duck down and feathers are used as filling in winter sleeping bags.
- Mummy sleeping bags - they perfectly follow the shape of your body, which brings the best thermal insulation properties. Mummy sleeping bags also have the advantage of retractable hoods, protecting your head.
When buying a sleeping bag, don't forget about other accessories. Put a sleeping mat under the sleeping bag, but a pillow or a lounger will also come in handy.
Sleeping bag accessories
Sleeping bag accessories can make sleeping even more comfortable and better if your option is a sleeping bag. Sleeping bag accessories include sleeping bag liners, sleeping bag compression sleeves or sleeping mats. Thanks to the sleeping bag liner, it is possible to increase your thermal comfort and use it even in colder conditions. For winter, it is ideal to use a liner with a high percentage of insulating fiber, which will extend the thermal comfort of the sleeping bag by more than 15°C. With the compression sleeve, you can pack your sleeping bag into a more compact size. For even more comfort, you can also get a pillow.
