Electric guns
Electric airsoft guns (sometimes abbreviated as EAG) work on the principle of an electric motor, thanks to which the plastic airsoft pellets in cal. 6 mm BB are fired. The electric motor is powered by a battery. The cheapest versions of electric airsoft guns are powered by common replaceable batteries (e. g. type AA 1.5 V or AAA 1.5 V). More expensive versions are equipped with a rechargeable battery and a charger is usually included.
Electric versions of airsoft pistols generally have a lower power output expressed in Joules than e.g. versions powered by the carbon dioxide contained in the cartridge. The power of electric pistol models is usually up to 1.00 Joule (similar to the power of manual airsoft pistols), while CO2 versions often exceed 2.00 Joules or more. Depending on the power ( projectile energy), the proper airsoft pellets in terms of weight needs to be chosen. The advantage of electric airsoft guns over CO2 airsoft guns is the fact that you don't have to carry a pouch of cartridge with you. Changing batteries is usually easier and quicker than installing the cartridge correctly. On the other hand, since airsoft pistols can't fit large batteries, their battery life is quite limited. Therefore, it is definitely a good idea to have spare batteries secured as well.
Popular manufacturers of electric airsoft pistols are e. g. manufacturers like Umarex or CYMA. Many of the electric versions can also shoot in full-auto mode, i. e. like a submachine gun, with the choice between semi-auto and full-auto firing mode made by a switch. Replicas of legendary pistols such as the Heckler & Koch P30 or Walther P99 are also sold as electric airsoft pistols. Many models of electric airsoft pistols are also equipped with a Blow-Back function. This feature ensures that the slide moves the same way with each shot as it does on real semi-auto pistols.
