Baseplate Compass
The baseplate compass is a simple device for orientation and navigation in the field. The base of the baseplate compass is a compass for determining cardinal points, complemented by a rotating protractor for azimuth measurement. The first baseplate compass (specifically a liquid compass) was constructed by the Czech inventor Josef Ressel.
Azimuth definition: this is the angle that the north point forms with the selected point.
The base of the baseplate compass is still the compass, which is complemented and improved by the function of azimuth measurement. Degrees of angle are measured from north, which is marked 0°, and the scale is marked clockwise on the rotary wheel of the baseplate compass.
