Carabiners for hiking, gear, and everyday use

A carabiner is a fixed metal loop closed by a spring or screw mechanism, which serves as a connecting element (e.g. between a climbing rope and a rock clip). Some carabiners have universal use. A carabiner consists of a body, a latch, a lock and possibly also a lock safety (in the case of nut carabiners, the latch takes the form of a lock nut). A safety may be installed on the latch to prevent the latch from self-tilting - unwanted opening of the carabiner. According to the material, carabiners are divided into:

1. Steel carabiners - these have higher weight and strength and are the most reliable. They are mainly used in rescue operations or in industry.
2. Carabiners made of light alloys - they are mostly made of aluminum alloys, exceptionally titanium is used for their production. They have lower strength and less resistance to abrasion and damage and are often used in mountaineering.
3. Plastic carabiners - used for secondary purposes only.

With the help of carabiners you can attach various accessories or other backpacks, bags and cases to your vest or backpack. They are sturdy; on the carabiner you can also hang pots or water bottles.
