AMD 65 (Automata Módosított Deszant [fegyver] 1965) is in Hungary made variant of AKM rifle for use of armored infantry and paratrooper units. Rifle design is suitable for outdoor use as infantry rifles, but can also be used on armored vehicles such as fire support. This is possible thanks to the folding stock shaft, which makes it more compact. 12,6 inch barrel is also relatively short for 7,62 x39 mm cartridges. The power drive does not require gas expansion vessel to the mouth as AKS 74U to ensure reliable operation, but uses a special muzzle brake, which attenuates glimpse of the estuary, while powerful sound. AKM 65 together with the earlier AKM 63 in Hungarian military service were largely replaced by AK 63 more traditional AKM copies with lower production costs.
