In 1906, the ingenious John Moses Browning, in collaboration with the Belgian Fabrique National, based in Herstale, constructed a miniature FN 1906 pistol to create a completely new category of automatic pistols. For this mini firearm, he also constructed his own ammunition, which until now has been manufactured under the designation of 6.35 mm Browning or .25 Auto. These cartridges were more powerful than the then revolver ammunition of similar caliber because they were filled with smokeless powder. Although the professional literature on weaponry and self-defense is currently rejecting this caliber, the guns and the cartridges inside them were, especially in the inter-war period, perceived by shooting public as ideal for self-defense purposes. Many designs of these pistols, or parts of their mechanisms, were often groundbreaking. For example, in the mechanism of the Little Tom firearm by Czech designer Tomiska, trigger cocking in automatic guns made its first appearance. All the caliber 6.35 Browning firearms have one common feature. Due to the low performance of the ammunition, their slide mechanism works on the principle of dynamic slide. Their non-decreasing popularity is proven by the fact that they are produced by different manufacturers and - presumably - they will be produced for a long time. For all we can mention the Italian Beretta, Ceska Zbrojovka from Uhersky Brod and Brazilian Taurus. Worldwide ammunition manufacturers always have this caliber in their range.
