Airsoft is not just an adrenaline sport. For its players, it is a game, a passion and a way of life that imparts various skills to them, especially when it comes to weapon handling, combat techniques, tactics and strategies. It can also teach you honesty and discipline. It is often confused with the other sport, paintball. So, keep reading to find out what is an airsoft and what you need to play it.

AIRSOFT GAME

The game of airsoft is played by firing weapons that are usually exact replicas or approximate imitations of real firearms. The ammunition for such weapons is plastic pellets with a diameter of 6 mm. The projectile energy of these weapons ranges from about 0.50 J to 5.00 J. The basic difference between airsoft and paintball is the fact that paintball uses weapons that do not resemble real firearms very much, thus lacking authenticity. At the same time, however, paintball guns are much more powerful due to their larger calibers and higher projectile energy, which ranges from about 5.00 J to 15.00 J. While an airsoft gun will only cause an unpleasant pinch, being hit by a projectile from a paintball gun is very unpleasant, painful, and can even cause suffusion and bruising. The advantage of paintball, however, is that the projectiles contain a color that marks the opponent when hit, making it obvious that they have been hit. As we indicated in the introduction, in airsoft one must learn honesty and discipline, because being hit by a small airsoft pellet is something one must admit to. However, if you don't want to walk home after a game with several severe bruises all over your body, airsoft is a better choice. 

The game called airsoft features several players who are divided into different teams and try to accomplish predetermined tasks and goals while firing their guns to eliminate the opponents who prevent them from doing so. The aim of the game is usually to free the hostages or to find and disarm the imitation bomb or to accomplish other tasks or objectives. A specific feature of this game is the fact that the person hit should make it clear and admit that they have been hit and, according to predetermined rules, they must be temporarily or even permanently eliminated from the game. The game may take place in buildings, forests, or other areas where there is no risk of harm to the health or property of non-participants. If you wish to hold an airsoft event off private land, it is a good idea to inform the municipality that manages the land on which you plan to hold the event.

Airsoft is a very widespread and popular game all over the world, mainly because you can play as criminals, terrorists fighting against soldiers, policemen and SWAT teams, and this game will look very realistic, but there is no risk of injury. You will learn the basics of weapons handling, learn combat techniques, strategies and tactics.

WHAT DO YOU NEED FOR AIRSOFT?

1. Airsoft gun - just like real firearms, airsoft guns come in different forms, e. g. pistols, revolvers, shotguns, rifles, or submachine guns. A good airsoft player has at least a pistol and a submachine gun at home. If he plays in the position of a sniper, for example, he also needs a rifle. If you are a newcomer, it is a good idea to consult a dealer beforehand to make the right choice. Popular manufacturers of airsoft guns are Umarex, ASG and Lancer Tactical. Be sure to also consult with your dealer about appropriate tactical accessories for the guns, such as a laser sight and a red dot sight.
2. Airsoft ammunition - plastic pellets with a diameter of 6 mm are produced in different weights, colors and packages. The more powerful your gun, the heavier the ammunition you can use. There are also glow-in-the-dark pellets suitable for play in twilight or darkness. Buy only quality pellets from proven brands. Pellets that are too cheap and of poor quality can cause damage to your gun over time. Verified pellet manufacturers are ASG, JS-TACTICAL, B.O. Manufacture and Umarex.
3. Protective equipment - as a basic general rule, the organizers will not let you play unless you have at least your face and eyes protected. Masks are divided into full face masks or lower face masks that only cover the nose, mouth and cheek area. Lower face masks must therefore be combined with appropriate protective eyewear. Knee pads, elbow pads and a helmet will not hurt either.
4. Tactical equipment - don't forget the holsters for your weapons that you will carry them in during the game. Tactical vests are a good tactical equipment where you can find a lot of useful storage space for your equipment.
5. Appropriate clothing - it can vary depending on who you are impersonating, e. g. a terrorist, a policeman, a soldier or someone else. If you are going to be a soldier, camouflage will definitely be in place. If a police officer from the SWAT team, black clothing will be appropriate. If you are playing outdoors, waterproof materials are recommended. Don't forget sturdy footwear either.
