HOW TO CHOOSE THE RIGHT BOW AND ACCESSORIES FOR A BEGINNER?

If you've decided to start a sport or leisure activity but you're not sure of your fitness level, reach for an archery bow. This low-impact sport, where you don't need to run, is great for complete beginners too. It will clear your mind and improve your concentration. So how do I choose the right bow when I want to start archery? We bring you some good advice.

The invention of the bow and arrow is scientifically estimated to date back to the early Stone Age, so the age of the bow and arrow is about 50,000 years. Opinions differ on the origin of the bow, however. What is certain, however, is that the bow and arrow has accompanied mankind on its entire journey so far. In importance for the preservation and evolution of the human race, the discovery of the bow and arrow ranks third only to the discovery of speech and fire. It was a tool that was decisive for man in the procurement of food as well as in warfare. The following questions should be asked when choosing a suitable bow:

1. What type of archery am I most interested in? Is it target shooting, 3D shooting at animal models, hunting or instinctive shooting? This determines the type of bow and its equipment.

2. Do I want to shoot just for fun and relaxation and eventually maybe competitively? For fun and relaxation, we have a wide selection of recreational bows that will improve your shooting so much that you will want to show your talent competitively.

3. Will the bow be just for me or is it for more people, e. g. as a "family bow", for fun together? Even versatile bows for the whole family can be a great choice.

4. What is my budget for buying a bow? Very important, as this determines the quality, difficulty and range of the archery equipment. For a beginner, it is important not to choose the most expensive bow, but the one that will best fit their use and needs.

5. So, what type of bow will be ideal for me? Everyone has a different idea of how they will enjoy the sport. Archery takes many forms, depending mainly on the type of bow. Some people prefer shooting with a historical or traditional bow, called a longbow. The same bow was used by Robin Hood. Other shooters are closer to ancient, short bows or, on the contrary, to recurve sport bows, also called Olympic bows, which are designed for accurate shooting at longer distances.

For technically oriented shooters we have compound bows. These are sport bows with high versatility (modification) and strong performance due to their construction. Often also called hunting bows. With these types of bows, the mandatory equipment of the shooter is really necessary. Without a gadget such as a string release, the bow cannot be used. Other necessary accessories are the arrow rest, the sights and the peep sight or the D-loop.

Very popular and recommended are already completed sets of compound bows in the so-called RTS / RTH variant - Ready to shoot. Of course, there are exact specifications and tables for choosing the right bow. In practice, however, we always face the most fundamental rule. The bow, its strength and size should be chosen according to the age of the archer and the length of his outstretched arm from the jugular fossa (the dimple below the larynx) to the center of the palm. We recommend bows with a draw weight of 22 - 26 Lbs. for female beginners and 30 Lbs. for male beginners. For children 8 - 12 years old, it is best to start with a draw weight between 18 - 20 Lbs. and for ages 12 - 15 years old, a draw weight of 20 - 22 Lbs.
