Defense sprays are made from natural products, for use within the limits of necessary defense or extreme emergency, and instantly paralyze the attacker. A defensive spray is a non-lethal, chemical weapon designed to temporarily incapacitate an adversary by means of eye and respiratory pain, and possibly temporary blindness. It is used in personal self-defense. It is sprayed at the opponent (animals such as aggressive dogs or wildlife) using a spray gun, as a foam or as a gel. Its main active ingredient is capsaicin extracted from peppers such as chilies. Capsaicin is mixed with water using an emulsifier, most commonly propylene glycol. Colloquially, it is also called pepper spray. The volume of sprays intended for personal defense ranges from 15 ml to 100 ml.
