How to choose a suitable compound bow for teenagers?

For the selection of bows, personal contact is the best. If that is not possible, we need to know at least the height of the shooter and his strength ability. In addition, compound bows are special because with the more expensive models you can adjust both the draw weight and the length of the bow. This is a great advantage, because during adolescence the bow can be "tightened" as needed. Learn more about the selection of a compound bow in the following article.

Compound bow's draw weight is adjustable in a range from power for children, up to full hunting values, for example in a draw weight from 5 up to 70 lbs. With such a bow you can start archery and the same model can stay with you permanently. The best and most popular branded models of highly versatile (adjustable) bows are Bear Legit, Cruzer or PSE Stinger Maxx.

For the above-mentioned bows, an accessory is needed for the shooter, namely a string release, as well as armguard. Such an armguard prevents the skin from abrasion after the shot.

If you're not sure if your teen or young adult will stick with the sport, we recommend a more economical version of the compound bow, such as the popular Ek-Archery Buster model. With this model you can also adjust the draw length of the string, i. e. the distance between the center of the bow and the cocked string. Moreover, the draw length of the string is directly proportional to the draw weight, and with the length adjustment you also adjust its strength.  So more simply, the shorter the draw length, the weaker the bow is, and it ranges in draw weight from 15-29 lbs. Alternatively, we recommend an even simpler model of the Kirupira bow with a draw weight of 15 to 20 pounds. Both variants come with a full "starter pack", everything you need to get started, such as arrows, armguard, finger guard, quiver or sights. But with the Kirupira bow model, its strength is solid. Its draw length is 22" - 24".

For the youngest archers, we have simple and undemanding compound bows, such as the EK-Archery chameleon models with a draw weight from 10 to 15 pounds. These bow models are simple in their construction and you don't have to set anything up. Their limbs are durable, made of composite fiberglass, with thicker strings that you just won't tear in normal use. You'll also find everything in the package for immediate use, like arrows, arm and finger guards, a quiver, and even a paper target.

For quality training, a target box and targets are also required, in order to have the best overview of your children's progress in archery. It is also good for a simpler reason; it safely stops a flying arrow. The best target boxes for this type of bow already come with a stand and paper target. The main material of the target bow is layered foam.

Always keep the safety of your children and young people in mind. Never allow them to point a bow at people or animals. It may seem like a bow is just a toy, but the opposite is true and even a weaker bow can hurt. It is best to reserve a safe place for shooting with a bow where the impact area of the arrow is away from people, etc. Always keep safety in mind while shooting and we believe that this beautiful sport will win the hearts of your little ones too.
