The latest entry in the evolution of pistol crossbows with magazine for late 2022 is the model VLAD by Ek-Archery. All of the available features and gadgets are supercharged in this issue. The Vlad is a repeating crossbow thus a multi-shot weapon with a magazine capacity of up to 8 bolts. The size of the Vlad crossbow is something between a pistol crossbow and a smaller tactical submachine gun. The Vlad features an all-metal folding stock similar to the stock of an EVO or Stribog submachine gun. The stock folds on the principle of a knuckle lift, and the overall length of the weapon with the stock folded is 38.5 cm. With the extended stock, the crossbow has a total length of 64.5 cm. Its height up to the Picatinny rail is 21.5 cm. Cocking of the crossbow is done by breaking the stock vertically downwards, before that it has to be unlocked by releasing the intuitively placed massive safety directly under the stock. With a 90 lbs draw weight of the limb, prepare for more resistance and a hefty load of kinetic force.

Power and strength:

The weapon's performance is incomparable to other crossbows because Ek-Archery matched the bolt's weight to the high limb power. Their VLAD bolts are much heavier and weigh about 11 grams. The average weight of regular duralumin bolts is 7g. The manufacturer emphasizes the usage of the crossbow exclusively with their VLAD bolts. Other pistol bolts may appear to be the same barrel length at 6.3", but they are certainly lighter and when shot with more powerful 90lb limbs, the bolt will break. You may damage your crossbow as a result. The velocity of the VLAD bolt with 90 lbs limbs is 215 fps - 65.54 m/s. With 60 lbs limbs the velocity is 165 fps - 50.3 m/s. Limb width is 17.5" - 44.45 cm (uncocked) and 15.75" - 40 cm (cocked). The weight of the crossbow is 1.9 kg.

Safety:

The crossbow has an automatic safety that locks when cocked. The empty magazine indication is very good. After the last bolt is fired, you simply aren't able to cock the string. It is blocked by a retention spring which pushes the bolts in the magazine down. The main parts of the crossbow including the cocking stock are made of metal, the magazine and grips are made of durable polymer.

Innovations:

The manufacturer continues with breakthrough disassembly, where the limb is quickly clamped with the help of a special head and secured with an integrated magazine pin. You do not have to screw the limb when changing it. You don't need any wrenches or tools. Within seconds you can replace limb to suit your preference. In fact, you'll find two fully prepared limbs in the package with 60 lbs and 90 lbs draw weight. A 30-pound limb is also available.

The crossbow has 4 x Picatinny rails for additional tactical accessories. The side Picatinny rails are primarily for the bolt speed loader. This VLAD speed loader doubles as a quiver and will take up to 8 bolts. Thus, you can carry up to 24 bolts total on your crossbow at the same time (8 bolts in the magazine, 2 x 8 bolts in the side quivers). This speed loader will reload the magazine in seconds.

The polymer stock design is one-piece, and the front end is the pass -through foregrip, a handgrip when cocking and also as a crossbow stand. The weapon has a luxurious black color and cannot be categorized as a regular crossbow.

Aiming:

The trend with sights is progressive and the Vlad has a slot for integrated laser sights just like the Steambow Stinger or ADDER 2.0 crossbows. Steambow's laser (product code PK209) is fully compatible with the VLAD crossbow magazine but it is not included. Fixed sights are also integrated on the VLAD crossbow. You can even use the fixed sights simultaneously with a red dot sight or scope. They are recessed in the mount and do not interfere with the red dot sight mount.

The Vlad crossbow comes fully equipped and ready to shoot. Included in the package are a 60 lbs and 90 lbs assembled limbs, VLAD duralumin pistol bolts - 16 pcs, duralumin red dot sight, VLAD speed loader, string, stringer aid, and wax. A wide variety of accessories such as bag, optics, 30 lbs limbs and more are available.

Seller's Opinion:

The gun runs fast, the high-capacity magazine and additional speed loaders make it even faster. Thanks to the folding stock, you can operate the crossbow with the stock folded like a short gun. With the extended stock, you feel like you're holding a tactical submachine gun of compact dimensions. Don't confuse the crossbow's performance, where the manufacturer lists the speed with heavier bolts. In practice, the crossbow is much more powerful, dangerous. The design is excellent, the luxurious black color underlines the dominance of the EK-Archery brand. This will be again for a longer time the TOP repeating crossbow with magazine!
