Whipshot bow review by Ek-Archery

In the last article about crossbows, we briefly described the development of crossbows. From quite primitive weapons have passed dozens of centuries, and now crossbows and bows have been perfected by leaps and bounds. They have changed their design, but their essence has remained the same. It is a mechanical weapon that releases mechanical or kinetic energy.

With the modernization of manufacturing technology, bows have been given a considerable advantage. The material used is highly durable. Today we do not mean the traditional wooden bows. In this article we will introduce you to the latest specialty from the Ek-Archery workshop.

WHIPSHOT BOW BY EK-ARCHERY

For the year 2022, Ek-Archery's latest release is the Whipshot bow. This is a highly upgraded bow and, as we've written before, the evolutionary ultimate are the mechanical weapons with a magazine. The Whipshot bow has been given a magazine with a capacity of six arrows. It is a compound bow combined with an arrow feeding mechanism. The material of the magazine is a lightweight and flexible plastic. Everything is perfectly tuned.

A BOW THAT TAKES YOU OUT OF YOUR ROUTINE

After testing this bow, I can guarantee that you will become an extremely fast and richly experienced archer in no time. Once you get your hands on the Whipshot, you need to change your orientation with the weapon. The integrated palm trigger moves the entire magazine and automatically reloads the arrows as you tension the bow. Your aiming focuses on the optics of the red dot sight, which is mounted at the end of the magazine. When aiming, the head does not tilt behind the string to the right side as it is customary, but remains gently angled as when shooting a rifle. This way you can better shoot at short and fast targets. When aiming with compound bows you must be straightened out and in one usually the same archery position.

When using a Whipshot, forget conventional stances. This bow will take you out of your routine. Aiming is similar to shooting a long firearm. The sighted design allows for freer movement. Your right hand, which draws the magazine and thus cocks the bow, is your first contact for the combination of aiming, releasing, and holding the direction of the shot. Holding the direction of the shot is just different here than with conventional compound bows. Although it doesn't appear at first glance, the magazine is stacked horizontally. Because of the size of the magazine and the placement of the launcher, your right hand is not as twisted and allows for freer movement, a more casual stance, and an excellent shot.

MAGAZINE FUNCTIONS

The magazine has several functions. The first is the drawing of the string. It is suspended from the bracket and tensions the string very quickly, smoothly and symmetrically. In fact, the magazine runs on rails held on screws. The second function of the tray is to reload or feed the arrows. You don't need to reach into the quiver for more arrows and waste time. The detailed spring-loaded arrow retainer pushes one arrow after another to the shooting point. There is an integrated palm release at the end of the magazine that has a perfect fit, ergonomic shape and just the right sensitivity. Last but not least, the magazine is connected to the aiming function. On its front is an optical sight called a red dot sight.

You can exchange it for a rifle scope, for example. However, it is necessary to choose rifle scopes for short guns due to the distance of the shooter's eye and the location of the optics. You can mount the rifle scope on the integrated Picatinny rail, or you can mount the magazine with a laser or flashlight on the rail at the front on the side.

INTUITIVE CONTROL LAYOUT

The whole cycle of shooting, holding the bow as well as the way of aiming goes hand in hand and is addictive. The layout of the controls is extremely intuitive. To work properly with the Whipshot magazine, you can adjust the draw weight of the Anvil compound bow from a minimum of 16 pounds up to a maximum of 50 pounds. The draw length can be adjusted from 22" - 28". You cannot cock the bow again after the last arrow has been shot.

ARROW RETAINER AS A SAFETY

The arrow retainer also serves as a safety against no-arrow cocking and thus prevents the dry firing of the arrow, while at the same time it indicates an empty magazine by a gentle resistance and reloading inhibition.

MAXIMUM POWER OF THE BOW

At the maximum setting, the bow's performance is 245 Fps - 74.7 m/s. Only special Whipshot carbon arrows with a length of 15" fit in the magazine. The total length of the magazine is 80 cm. Let off (drop in draw weight) is 70%. The Anvil bow has a duralumin riser and fiberglass limbs. Limb and string dampeners. The magazine has a duralumin rail and a lightweight plastic body. The entire bow and magazine set has a respectable weight of only 3 kg.

CONCLUSION

This repeating bow is really interesting and exceptional. Moreover, at an affordable price of under 450 €. It is designed for beginners as well as advanced or experienced shooters for fun. It is suitable for women, youth but also for stronger guys. It is versatile, i.e. it is highly adjustable and you can customize it perfectly according to your needs.

This model of bow is not common. The bow with a magazine is only available by the Austrian brand Steambow and it is the Fenris model. This model is slightly heavier as it is made up of mostly duralumin. The price is also higher.

In any case, we have something to look forward to, because mechanical weapons such as bows and crossbows are the focus of wide attention of shooters as well as manufacturers. We can’t wait to see what breakthroughs the Ek-Archery brand will bring us again next year.
