It is often mistaken for the Russian AK-47 and is often incorrectly referred to terminologically as a submachine gun. We are talking about the assault rifle SA vz. 58, which was introduced into the Czechoslovak army in 1958 and is still part of the armament of the armed forces of the Slovak Republic and the Czech Republic today. This assault rifle may not be as well-known in the world as the Russian AK-47 assault rifle, but this Czechoslovakian piece has also seen its airsoft replicas.
The reason for the creation of this assault rifle dates back to 1951, when the Czechoslovak army requested the development and production of a new assault rifle in cal. 7.62 mm. For this purpose, several different prototypes were made by different designers with the designations ČZ 515, ČZ 522, ČZ 503, ČZ 530 and others. However, all projects were stopped in 1955 in favour of the SA vz. 58, developed by Jiří Čermák. In 1958, all tests and improvements of this weapon were successfully completed and mass production began. The most famous versions were the SA vz. 58 P (infantry with fixed stock), SA vz. 58 V (airborne with folding stock) and SA vz. 58 Pi (with bipod and infrared scope).
It is often confused in design and construction with the Russian AK-47 assault rifle. The assault rifle SA vz. 58 is, however, lighter, shorter and more complex in design (it contains more components). There was also a version 858, which was self-loading (semi-auto) and intended for civilian gun owners. Today, modernized versions of this legend are produced by the Czech brand Czech Small Arms. They are produced with different barrel lengths and even in multiple calibers.
Electric airsoft replicas (AEG) are manufactured by the well-known Chinese brand ARES. Several variants are produced in different lengths and with different accessories. A popular model is the VZ 58 ML AEG, which is equipped with a telescopic stock, magazine well for M4 / AR15 type magazines, mounting rail and a projectile energy of up to 1.50 J.
Manual airsoft replicas are produced by the Czech brand BAS, which has been on the market for over 30 years. Originally it was one of the first importers of airsoft guns in the Czech Republic and Slovakia. Today, however, it also produces its own models. These include various variants of the SA vz. 58 in manual version (ASG). Considering the low price, they are seriously crafted and of high quality. An example is the Warrior W58S model with folding stock. These manual airsoft replicas will be particularly pleasing to young beginners.
