It is almost impossible to find a break barrel air pistol in the price level up to 60 Euros. Even more impossible if you want a brand that means something on the world market, such as Umarex, Gamo, Crosman and similar brands. One of these brands has managed to do it and has come straight to the market with two models of break barrel pistols at unbelievably low prices. Which brand is it?
If you know even a little bit, it must be obvious from the name of both models that the manufacturer is the German company UMAREX GmbH & Co. KG. This company is well known for the fact that in the field of airsoft and air guns it is rather devoted to medium to more expensive models of weapons, because most of them are licensed replicas of real guns. Recently, however, this manufacturer has also launched products with lower price tags, using the UX (short for Umarex ) brand.
With the introduction of the UX SPA 60 and UX SPA 100, when it comes to price the manufacturer has overtaken its own break barrel air pistol models such as the Browning Buck Mark URX and Ruger Mark IV. However, it has also overtaken a strong competitor in the economy class, which is the GAMO P-900 pistol. Perhaps the only cheaper pistol left on the market is the legendary spring pistol, whose history dates back to the former Czechoslovakia. This pistol is the LOV 2, which, however, is bought more out of nostalgia than for real shooting.
UMAREX GmbH & Co. KG presents these two new models on its website as the ideal cheaper choice for beginners for recreational shooting. The UX SPA 60 model features a shorter barrel and therefore a shorter total length and a slightly lower weight.
Otherwise, they are air break barrel guns in cal. 4.5 mm (.177), which are based on the same foundation and work on the principle of a spring with a piston. You break the barrel, insert the pellet, snap the barrel back into place and you're ready to fire. They have a projectile energy of up to 3 Joules and a muzzle velocity of up to 100 m/s. Such a tuned performance is quite common with most break barrel air pistols of comparable size.
Both models have a grooved barrel, which guarantees greater accuracy of the fired pellet. Another interesting feature is the functional palm safety. Unless you grip the pistol firmly and correctly with your palm, you will not fire. However, there is also a manual safety, which you can secure if needed. The red accessories refresh the overall design nicely.
What can be said about these models as a negative? Perhaps only that the sights are fixed and cannot be adjusted, and these pistols do not include any mounting rails that would allow installation of a red dot sight, laser sight and other accessories. However, many other more expensive break barrel air pistols do not have such conveniences either.
