The Soviet Union was among the first who attempted to develop a self-loading rifle. The first automatic rifle AVS 36, however, did not prove itself much, and therefore a replacement was started to be looked for. The self-loading rifle SVT 38 by designer Fyodor Tokarev became just that. The introduction of the gun gave rise to competition with constructors Tokarev (SVT 38) and Simonov (Advanced AVS 36). Tests showed that the rifles were equal, the victory was helped thanks to Tokarev's personal acquaintance with Stalin.

In 1939 mass production of the SVT 38 rifle began. When designing the rifle, much of attention was paid to its weight, causing overloading the parts. During the Russo-Finnish war at the turn of 139-1940, these guns were not a success, it was even suggested to end the production for the benefit of the Simonov rifle. Ultimately, however, Stalin in order to fulfill the armaments plan, stepped back from this idea and gave instructions to the improvement of the SVT 38 rifle. Therefore, the SVT 38 was in 1940 dropped from the production line and replaced with the SVT 40.

It is not allowed to conclude a distance contract relating to the purchase and sale of weapons or ammunition, other than category D weapons, ammunition for category D weapons, key parts and components of category D weapons. Sale of these weapons can therefore be implemented only in stores upon submitting a firearms license!
