Advantages of the tactical pen

Monday, 25 July 2016

The very name "tactical pen" evokes images of various thrilling espionage adventures, like something out of Tactical-pen-titaniumJames Bond. Pens shooting poisoned darts, exploding bullets, poison and alike. Are such pens reality?

The reality, unfortunately, is not so exotic and adventurous, but a tactical pen will still serve you very well as a means of personal protection.

WHAT IS IT ACTUALLY?

A tactical pen is basically an ordinary writing utensil, but one that is designed to perform an additional function. The added value of the pen is that you can use it for effective personal protection in an emergency. This is not a modern and groundbreaking innovation; we have known of such pens since 1970, when Takayuki Kubota produced a protective device - similar in shape and size to a pen. At that time this invention was called Kubotan, but today it also enjoys the name "tactical pen".

WHAT IS IT USED FOR?Tactical-pen-vulnerable-spots

The rounded - blunt end of the pen is used to deliver targeted hits to an attacker, with the intention of disarming them with strikes to pressure points. It is the rounded end that allows us to gain the upper hand over the attacker without causing long-term physical damage. The other end of the pen, which can also be used for writing, serves either as a writing utensil or again as a means of defense, with the difference that this end causes the attacker much more intense pain.

With the use of greater force and in combination with the blunt end against the thumb, the pen can also serve as a stabbing weapon - especially if used on the weakest parts of the body, such as throat and eyes.

IS IT WORTH IT?

At this point, you might be thinking that a classic pen, or a similarly shaped object, could serve just as well. That's absolutely true, an ordinary pen would serve just as well, but only once.

Imagine what would happen if you deliver your first blow to an attacker and your only protective device shatters into several pieces. You would be left with an attacker without a single means of defense. It's precisely because of scenarios like this that tactical pens are made from the toughest and most durable materials - like aircraft-grade duralumin.

Personally, I think the answer to the question of whether a tactical pen is worth is clear.  Tactical pens are a very effective and, thanks to their inconspicuous appearance, unexpected means of defense that are guaranteed to surprise an attacker.

WHY TO RELY ON A TACTICAL PEN?

Speaking of the element of surprise, that's one of the greatest strengths of tactical pens. The inconspicuous appearance allows you to pass unnoticed through most security checks (which isn't to say you should abuse it), so you'll always be left with at least one means of protection. It fits comfortably in your pants or jacket pocket, or you can clip it to your notebook.

I firmly believe that you'll make one of the wisest decisions when you decide to trade in your classic pen for a tactical pen. If you're interested in tactical pens, then feel free to check out the variants we offer at a great price
