Testing of impact resistant shield AFG

1st impression:

• Shield is light, elastic with an interesting construction of a handle and has a wide grasp of carrying.
• Even with an impact resistant set on your body you can comfortable manipulate with it, especially with the part which holds the forearm.
• Carrying of a shield is comfortable but firm.
• During the tests it was examinated to carry a shield by using a tonfa in the upper part of the shield ( this carrying has been used by SPJ during the demonstrations and other activities.

1st experience

• 1st test was done by strong kicking and hitting.
• Afterwards a shield was bended so it means it helps to damp an impact caused by kicking.
• Shield was resistant of course and after the test a person carrying this shield wasn’t neither tired nor groggy even if kicks and hits were as strong as possible.

2nd test:

Beats by different kinds of bar guns: slats and stocks of different sizes, different kinds of stones and cobbles, iron bars- long one, telescopic batton 21“, iron chair ( a gun), field shovel ( a slasher), cutlass, metal slasher).

1. Slats and stocks: All beats by these matters have been endured without any problems. No problem with a shield holding was caused, minimal cincussions.
2. Iron bar: any problem as well, just some scratches visible.
3. Telescopic batton: just some scratches.
4. Chair: Any problems, on the conrary- a chair was being bended after the second beat.
5. Stones and cobbles: any problems, these matters were bounced back from the shield; just some scratches visible on the shield.
6. Cutlass: Similar result as with a field shovel. Even a lot of stabs into the middle of a shield did not damage a corpus. After a vertical stab we managed to slash a shield. A shield stayed resistant after a damage as well. Sometimes a part of a shield broke off. But definitely we can say that even with a damaged shield a policeman is able to defend himself.
7. Field shovel: no problem. In spite of the fact a shield was corrupted and a shovel was keened edged, any jag was not deeper than 1mm.

Afterwards testing continued and a lot of beats, kicks etc. were used. A shield endured, a defender was not so exhausted so a shield came up to expectations.

3rd test:

3rd test was focused to the lower part of the shield and a handle. After the treading and jumping there was no problem with the shield. Later we used metal bars to hold a shield at the sides and in the middle it was ungrounded. Again we tried to jump on the shield but it stayed undamaged. Furthermore we used a metal slasher and a cutlass and again the shield stayed undamaged, just with some chases. After the cutlass was used the shield was stabbed 2-3mm deep to the handle but we are sure that if it was holded in the hands, any stab would not come over.

4th test:

This test was focused to the holder of the shield. We used a telescop and field shovel in the way that beats were directed just to the holder. The result was quite good, the holder was lightly bounced, rubber cover of a holder was splitted but we were still able to hold the shield in the hands.

Summary:

General effect of the shield is better than our expectations. There are no problems with holding, just in case you hold a tonfa together with the shield. We had some problems with an upper hand, plastic material at a handle is higher and it can happen that tonfa can slide a bit. On the other hand, double handle enables holding by both hands. Fast and fixed grab is better than with other fields, spread of a handle is adequate. The shield is very light, well- shaped and has an adequate cover surface. It means a defender has a great chance at intervention. Resistance of the field is really great. We can say that the field is break resistant, some problems can occur just at the hit by a harsh object right to the edge. Generally the shield is really great!
